About Dom’s Fitness Life

Hello, my name is Dominick Duff and welcome to my Fitness Life Journal, where I discuss my personal exploration of fitness and health and share information and media that I implement in my fitness life.

A little bit about me - I currently work as a Telemetry Technician, sometimes referred to as a Cardiac Monitor Tech, monitoring the heart rhythms of inpatients with history of cardiac issues. I’m currently studying to be certified as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach.

I’ve served in the healthcare industry for about 7 years, beginning as a Member and Provider Services Representative for Anthem Blue Cross and United Healthcare, moving on to be an order picker for medical supplies at MedLine, and then starting my career at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital first as a Patient Care Technician. After obtaining my EKG Technician certificate with the Indiana School of Phlebotomy, I finally accepted my position as a Telemetry Tech where I currently reside.

My interest in fitness began back in high school where I was a wrestler for 4 years at the 135 pound weight class. It was through wrestling that I learned not only the benefits of strength and conditioning, but I also began to learn the mechanics of how the body can and can’t move, the benefits of flexibility, how to manage my weight through diet, exercise, and hydration, the advantages of cardiovascular conditioning, and probably the most important value I picked up and carried for the rest of my life - how my mindset can also be strengthen and conditioned through exercise.

Mindset is really important to me, especially being a father and a husband. This is why even though my journals will be focused on fitness, you will also see quite a bit of mental health and psychology content in my journals as well. Exercise hasn’t just served my body over the years but has also served as a form of medicine for mental health issues I have battled through over the years.

Through therapy, exercise, balancing my diet, listening to online content from mental health experts and neuroscientists, and exploring the world of psychology literature and self-help literature, I’ve managed to shift the tide in what is still an on-going battle (yet now a winning battle instead of a losing one) against depression, anxiety, and troubles with focusing attention.

Though I do these journals because I like doing them, I hope they can serve a purpose to you as well. I am not a doctor, but simply someone who is enthusiastic about learning and sharing what I am implementing in my own life as well as what I am curious about. Hope you’re well and healthy. Thanks for reading.
